My work colleagues took me to some wonderful cocktail bars around central London. A place we frequented on payday is Dirty Martinis for the happy hour. Our favourite was the Pornstar Martini which came with a shot of prosecco. I celebrated my 30th in the same bar with the same group of people.
Another spot we tried was Zebrano in the city (near the gherkin building). This spot is underground and quite quirky. The food platters were decently priced and delicious. We were also treated with a complimentary bottle of prosecco. A go to spot to finish the night was Forge Bar near Bank station. While the prices are dearer, the music is great.
The Hoxton hotel in Shoreditch is a delightful gem. It has an alternative yet cosmopolitan feel. The younger business crowd of London tend to hang out here. The sales rep for our team often invited us for free drinks and canapes. The invitations were always warmly welcomed.
Some other hotels I had the pleasure of viewing through work were the Andaz hotel Liverpool Street station. The hotel has 3 restaurants on site, our host treated us to a starter in the Catch Bar, main in the Eastway restaurant and dessert in the 1901 Wine lounge. Each meal was accompanied by an alcoholic beverage that suited the food. Our starter was fish and chips with beer, main was a quinoa and bocconcini salad with white wine, followed with a cheese platter and chocolates accompanied with a red wine.
The Mondrian hotel is situated in the Southbank area along the River Thames. It boasts an amazing Rumpus Room rooftop bar with stunning views over the Millenium bridge and city. Our host treated us to their eccentric cocktails in the downstairs Dandelyan bar, my choice the vaudeville venom cocktail. We finished the night with a medieval style feast in the Sea Containers restaurant. Thankfully it was a short stroll to London Bridge station for my journey home.
The Athanaeum hotel is a luxury hotel situated in the Hyde Park area. It’s an elegant hotel with a touch of modesty which makes it even more classy. Our host for this gem treated us to a 3 course meal; crab lasagne, grilled fish and chocolate cake. On our exit he gifted us with tea mugs.
Another hotel that spoilt us was the Langham hotel in Oxford Street. I was particularly excited for this visit as one of my favourite actors filmed one of his movies here. Burnt starring Bradley Cooper. Our rep showed us around the impressive building eluding to one of the rooms being haunted. At the end of the tour he sat us in a lounge with bottomless champagne and roasted nuts. From here he moved us into one of the function rooms for a grand 3 course meal. Upon our exit he gifted us a moleskin diary and Langhams signature pink pens with gold markings.
Working in London allowed me the opportunity to visit many amazing hotels. The above are the ones that have stuck in my mind for all the right reasons.
